Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your US take-home pay per paycheck.

Disclaimer: This calculator gives estimates only and is not financial, tax, or legal advice. Figures can differ from lender, employer, or official calculations. Please confirm important decisions with a qualified professional. See our full disclaimer.
Important: This is a simplified US federal estimate using 2024 single / married-filing-jointly standard deductions and brackets, Social Security at 6.2% up to $168,600 and Medicare at 1.45%. It does not cover every deduction, credit, local tax or special case, and it is not tax advice.

How paycheck tax is estimated

Annual gross pay is reduced by pre-tax deductions, then the standard deduction is applied before federal brackets are worked through progressively — each slice of income is taxed at its own rate, not one flat rate. Social Security (6.2%, capped) and Medicare (1.45%) are then added, plus any flat state estimate you enter.

Worked example

A $3,000 bi-weekly paycheck is $78,000 a year. For a single filer with no pre-tax deductions or state tax, the estimate subtracts the $14,600 standard deduction, applies the federal brackets to the remaining $63,400, plus Social Security and Medicare on $78,000.

Frequently asked questions

Is this paycheck calculator exact?

No. It is a simplified federal estimate. Actual withholding depends on your W-4, benefits, credits, state and local rules and employer payroll settings.

What is the difference between gross and net pay?

Gross pay is pay before deductions. Net (take-home) pay is what remains after taxes and deductions.

Does it include state tax?

Only the flat percentage estimate you enter. State systems vary widely and many use their own brackets and deductions.
